HeritageRAID-SA brings Serial ATA RAID to the enterprise. By delivering high capacity, scalability, reliability, data availability, and bandwidth at the low cost of SATA drive technology, HeritageRAID-SA meets the exploding data storage needs of today's IT departments.   For applications such as disk-based backup, online archiving, disaster recovery, records management, medical imaging, video editing, email archiving, etc., reliable data storage has never been more affordable.

HeritageRAID-SA systems feature Fibre Channel, SCSI or iSCSI interfaces and attach directly to servers, networks, NAS engines or SANs where performance, reliability, and low cost is critical.

High Performance
Equipped with a 64-bit RISC processor and a 266 or 400 MHz data bus architecture, the HeritageRAID-SA is designed for performance critical applications and environments.  A HeritageRAID-SA Fibre system with dual controllers delivers sustained reads of up to 770 MB/s and sustained writes of up to 460 MB/s in a 24 drive RAID-5 configuration.

Reliability and Data Availability
HeritageRAID-SA provides high data availability with support for RAID levels 0, 1, (0+1), 3, 5, 10, 30 & 50. RAID level 6, available on certain models, improves fault tolerance by implementing two parity drives. Other features such as dual active-active or active-passive controllers, controller failback, hot swappable drives, global & dedicated hot spares, automatic drive failure detection, automatic background rebuild, and redundant load sharing power supplies and cooling fans ensure that your data is available in the event

of a component failure. All components are hot-pluggable for simple maintenance.  HeritageRAID-SA arrays are integrated with RAID Edition disk drives, providing high reliability in 24 x 7 environments.

Smart Technologies

The Innovative firmware design of the HeritageRAID-SA features intelligent drive technology that enhances I/O processing, drive handling, and system management.

  • IOSmart

IOSmart allows for the flexible configuration of logical drives, logical volumes and logical partitions and ensures instant RAID availability via background logical drive initialization.  The firmware’s embedded intelligent algorithms, such as Adaptive Write Policy and Guaranteed Latency I/O, improve the performance of sequential write applications and ensure the fast and continuous flow of data.

  • DrvSmart

The DrvSmart utility provides an easy way to store data while keeping it safe.  One of the main DrvSmart functions, Media Scan, retrieves data from degraded or damaged hard drives and handles low quality drives in both the degraded mode and during the rebuild process.  Other DrvSmart features include disk cloning, drive roaming, SMART, transparent resetting of non-responsive hard drives, and RAID parity update tracking and recovery.

  • SysSmart

In addition to RAID protection for the disk drives, HeritageRAID-SA features Auto Data Protection Mechanisms. These special SysSmart firmware functions ensure data safety by automatically switching to write-through data caching when abnormal subsystem conditions are detected such as a PSU/cooling module failure, low BBU or UPS battery charge, etc. By using the firmware to monitor and control the enclosure's dual-speed fans, the fan rotation speed is raised to a higher level when critical conditions are detected, e.g., a PSU or fan failure. Fan speed returns to the lower setting when normal operating status is restored.  The system can be monitored by variety of ways. I2C internal serial bus, SAF-TE, and SES are seamlessly integrated into the comprehensive Java-based GUI RAIDWatch Manager. Component status, voltage and temperature readings, and system events are instantly revealed through the manager's graphical interface.

Manageability
Configuration and monitoring of HeritageRAID-SA systems can be performed via a RS-232 terminal session, or the network-based/in-band RAIDWatch Java-based GUI.

RAIDWatch

Accessible via TCP/IP or in-band, RAIDWatch is an easy-to-use, Java-based GUI RAID management software application. RAIDWatch provides a complete management interface to the RAID system and a constant real-time report of the current RAID status, errors, events, and capacity.

RAIDWatch enables administrators to quickly locate and rectify problematic hardware without downtime or data loss. Many RAID controller functions, such as RAID setup, RAID expansion, password management and firmware upgrades can be handled through the software console. The info window provides information on all installed hard drives and the key elements of the RAID controller. RAIDWatch also enables administrators to monitor current cache data status and system environmental conditions such as temperature and power.

Administrators can be notified virtually anywhere of events occurred by the powerful event notification utility, NPC (Notification Processing Center). Notification takes place via e-mail, LAN broadcast, SNMP, fax, and/or pager.

SANWatch
SANWatch provides instantaneous point-in-time "snapshot" copies of data that look and behave like complete backups without consuming equivalent disk space. SANWatch protects stored data from accidental or malicious loss, quickly performs data recovery, and easily retrieves lost data with minimum interference to system performance and I/O access. Snapshot images are ideal for various applications including backup, application testing or development, information analysis, and data mining.  Available as an option on HS12100/200F24, HS16100/200F24, & HS16100I2 models.

EonPath Multi-Pathing
EonPath provides multi-path I/O functionality by recognizing and managing the redundant paths to an individual RAID volume. Greater reliability is achieved through the path failover mechanism in the event of cabling component failure. EonPath also comes with load-balancing algorithms which help accelerate the throughput across host-storage data links. EonPath works with the following models: HS16100I2. HS16100F24, HS16200F24, HS24100F24, & HS24200F24.
